Afghan Hound Characteristics

The Afghan Hound is a very fine housepet. He (she) is gentle, highly intelligent, easy to train, loves to play with the family (however is reserved with strangers). The Afghan finds contentment in the quiet life and loves to take long daily walks.

When choosing this elegant dog for a pet it must be remembered these animals need daily care to remain the contented and beautiful center of attraction. The Afghan needs regular bathing and grooming - its hair is long and silky and can become matted if not combed and brushed.

This is a high energy animal looking for an outlet. The long daily walks and regular play time are very necessary for the maintenance and well being of this "King of Dogs."

The Afghan Hound dogs measure 27 inches (+/- 1 inch) at the withers and weigh about 60 pounds.

The Afghan Hound bitches measure 25 inces (+/- 1 inch) at the withers and weigh about 50 pounds.

The whole appearance of the Afghan Hound is one of style, beauty, dignity and they are having a wonderful time being who and what they are.
